Less Waste. More Meals.
The story behind our mission
When I learned the scale and impact of the food waste problem, I was shocked. The fact that so much healthy food ends up in the trash instead of on a dinner table is hard to believe, especially as families in our community struggle with food insecurity. We can work to change that for our city.
Who is Pete?
My dad, Pete Sluk, had the best backyard garden in Dickson City, PA. He always grew more than my family needed. At least once a week, Dad would send me off with bags of fresh veggies to share with grateful neighbors. Lettuce in the spring, tomatoes in late summer, and apples in the fall. The harvest from his garden was never wasted. Pete's Garden is working to ensure more KC kids have access to the fresh healthy foods I grew up with.
